Systematization Regional Workshop for Indigenous Peoples and Climate Finance

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is the officially designated financial mechanism to operate under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) to finance mitigation and adaptation activities in developing countries.


The International Indigenous Peoples' Forum on Climate Change (IIPFCC) has been negotiating with the State Parties and with other multilateral organizations, to present indigenous peoples’ priorities and concerns in the UNFCCC.


While there is still much work to be done, there are gains and important lessons learned in the work for the defense of Indigenous peoples (IPs), including the Cancun safeguards on REDD+, particularly with respect to intellectual property rights and traditional knowledge, consideration of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP); and full and effective participation of Indigenous peoples and other stakeholders in the REDD+ process.
